Serving Wexford

Why homeowners across Wexford choose J.Roberts Solid Fuel Services

County Wexford is Ireland's sunny southeast corner, but even here the autumn and winter months bring genuine cold, and a quality stove is one of the most effective ways to keep a home warm and welcoming throughout the year. We have been serving Wexford homeowners for many years, covering everything from Wexford Town and Enniscorthy in the centre of the county to the port town of New Ross on the Barrow, the busy market town of Gorey in the north, and the historic village of Bunclody at the foot of the Blackstairs Mountains.

One of the distinctive features of Wexford's property landscape is the significant number of holiday homes and weekend retreats, particularly along the Hook Peninsula, the Rosslare strand, and around Kilmore Quay and Courtown. These coastal properties often sit idle for long periods, making an efficient, easy-to-use stove an ideal heating solution — you can arrive on a Friday evening, light the stove, and have the whole house warm within an hour. We fit stoves in holiday homes regularly and understand the particular requirements of these properties, including appropriate flue terminal selection for exposed coastal sites where sea breezes can cause downdraught.

Wexford Town itself has a strong stock of Victorian and Edwardian terraced houses along its characterful quayside streets, and many of these older properties have original chimney stacks that have never been lined. Converting these to stove use requires careful chimney surveying and correct liner specification, both of which our fully insured team handles to a high standard. The same applies to the many period properties in Enniscorthy, which is one of Ireland's most beautifully preserved Victorian towns.

The farming community across the rich agricultural heartland of Wexford — the Slaney valley, the Barrow lowlands, and the open plains around Ferns and Kiltealy — has always had a strong tradition of solid fuel heating. We work with many Wexford farming families who are upgrading from old back boilers or open fires to modern multi-fuel stoves, and we see excellent results in terms of warmth and fuel economy for these customers.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions — Wexford

Yes. Wexford Town is not a smoke control zone, and wood burning stoves are fully permitted. We install Ecodesign 2022-compliant stoves as standard in all urban areas, which produce significantly lower emissions than older stove models and open fires. This is good practice regardless of smoke control zone status and ensures your installation is future-proofed against any changes to air quality regulations.
There are currently no designated smoke control zones in County Wexford. The county benefits from generally good natural ventilation given its coastal and open landscape, and air quality concerns are less acute than in larger urban centres. We nonetheless always install clean-burning, certified stoves and provide guidance on correct fuel use, as burning good quality dry wood makes a dramatic difference to both emissions and heating efficiency.
Yes, coastal properties do present some specific considerations. Exposed coastal sites, particularly on the Hook Peninsula and around Rosslare and Kilmore Quay, can experience strong prevailing winds that create downdraught in chimneys. We address this with the correct selection of flue terminal — anti-downdraught cowls or wind-directional terminals are often appropriate in these locations. We also use stainless steel liner grade 904 for properties near the sea as the salt air environment is more demanding than inland locations.
A typical installation takes one to two days. We cover the full county of Wexford, including Wexford Town, Enniscorthy, New Ross, Gorey, Bunclody, and all rural areas in between. Wexford borders Carlow, our home county, so the northern part of the county is particularly accessible for us. For New Ross and the south of the county, we allow a little additional travel time but this has no bearing on our pricing or quality of work.
We install a wide range of stoves in Wexford including Waterford Stanley, Henley Stoves, Stovax, Morso, Dovre, and Charnwood. Waterford Stanley stoves are made in Ireland and are a popular choice with Wexford customers who appreciate supporting Irish manufacturing. The Henley range is also very competitively priced and offers excellent quality for the budget-conscious buyer. We will recommend the best fit for your property and requirements during your free home survey.
Customer Reviews

What Wexford customers say

★★★★★

"We had J.Roberts Solid Fuel Services install a stove in our holiday cottage near Kilmore Quay. They came out, surveyed the chimney, advised on the right anti-downdraught cowl for the exposed location, and fitted a Waterford Stanley that looks and works beautifully. We can arrive any time of year and be warm within the hour."

Roisin Kehoe — Kilmore Quay, Co. Wexford
★★★★★

"Our Victorian terrace in Enniscorthy had an original fireplace that had been blocked up for years. J.Roberts unblocked it, carried out a full chimney survey, lined it, and installed a gorgeous cast-iron stove. The whole process was smooth, professional, and the price was very competitive."
